It's hard to believe that a new school year is here! I would like to update you on what we will be learning/doing this quarter.
In reading we will be reading various literature stories to support how to show good citizenship. Also, later in the quarter we will be reading various informational text on three systems of the body: digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems.
In writing we will be working on writing conventions. Students will also be writing about their summer break along with learning how to write a personal narrative.
In our Fundations Phonics/Writing Program we are learning how to use digraphs, along with various vowel teams. We are completing Unit 1 homework, step by step in class together. Then, when Unit 2 homework comes home, your child will be familiar with how to complete our Fundations homework and even teach the "adult" who is working with him/her.
In social studies we will be continuing to learn about good citizenship and in science we will be learning about the three systems of the body.
In math we will be writing numbers in different ways which include base ten form, numerical and word form. We will also be adding 3-digits with and without regrouping.
Also, if you are sending in a special snack to share for a birthday, please let me know in advance as it takes away from a child's special day if multiple birthday treats come into the classroom without warning. We DO have peanut allergies and ask that our classroom be a peanut free classroom.
Finally, our classroom is registered in the Scholastic News Book Club where families can order books through the classroom online. Our Class Code is #MP97H. This is a way that our classroom can earn free books for our children to read in class.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. If possible, please take turns reading with your child at least 20 minutes per night as this will assist them greatly AND sign their green GO folder at the end of each week please.
Thank you again for all you do. It's hard to believe that we are in our last quarter of the year and soon your children will be third graders.
